How to add a background to a screenshot
- Take a screenshot: Windows+Shift+S on Windows, or ⌘+Ctrl+Shift+4 on a Mac to copy a selection to the clipboard.
- Click this page and press Ctrl+V or ⌘V. You can also drop an image file or choose one.
- Under Background, pick one of 8 gradients, a solid color, or the checkered "None" for a transparent PNG.
- Adjust Padding, Rounded corners and Shadow until it looks right.
- Choose a Canvas size, or keep "Fit screenshot", then click Download PNG. Where your browser supports it, Copy image puts the result straight on your clipboard.
Tips for a clean result
- Crop tightly when you take the screenshot. The background and padding do the framing for you.
- Pick a background that contrasts with the screenshot: dark gradients like Night for light interfaces, soft ones like Sky or Peach for dark mode.
- For several images in one article or deck, keep the same background and padding. Your settings are remembered on this device.
- Choose a transparent background if you'll place the image on a colored slide or web page.
Screenshot beautifier FAQ
Can I use my brand color as the background?
Yes. Choose Solid color and pick or type your exact color in the color picker.
How much padding should I use?
The default 8% suits most social posts. Use less for documentation where space is tight, and more when the image will be shown small, such as in a feed.
Can I remove the "Made with LapwingShot" credit?
Free downloads include a small credit in the corner, exactly as shown in the preview. Removing it is planned for Pro, which isn't available yet.
Is it free?
Yes. Every background, frame and canvas size is free with no signup. Free exports carry a small "Made with LapwingShot" credit in the corner. The credit is part of the free tier. A future Pro option may remove it.
Are my screenshots uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser. The only things ever sent are cookie-free visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics, see Privacy) and an anonymous error report if something breaks (error text, browser, page, app version), never anything you type or upload.
How do I paste a screenshot?
Copy a screenshot to your clipboard (for example with Windows+Shift+S or ⌘+Ctrl+Shift+4 on a Mac), click anywhere on this page and press Ctrl+V or ⌘V.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes. Choose the checkered "None" background. The PNG keeps transparency around the window and its shadow.
What resolution is the export?
With "Fit screenshot" the export keeps your screenshot's own pixels (up to 4096 px on the longest side). Fixed canvases export at their listed size.
Which canvas size should I use?
16:9 suits X posts, slides and YouTube thumbnails. 1:1 suits Instagram and LinkedIn feeds. 4:5 takes up the most room in an Instagram feed.
